Q- How do I open an SVG file in Cricut Design Space?
A-Firstly, open Cricut design space and log in as usual.
Click on ‘Upload Images’ (located to the left of the Design space window.) Two options will appear (as per the picture below) ‘Basic upload’ and ‘Vector Upload’.
As we are wanting to open an SVG file in this instance, we will use the ‘Image’ option.
Click on browse
Navigate to the folder that you have saved your downloads to, click on the SVG file you would like to open.
Double click on the SVG file. The design you have clicked on will appear in the white box under ‘browse’.
Click on Save, (located to the bottom right of the screen)
The design you have saved will appear under the uploaded images library
The design will now appear on the canvas
You have now successfully opened an SVG file in Cricut Design Space
Q- How do I open an SVG file in Silhouette Studio?
A- (Please note: SVG files will not open with the Basic Edition software)
Firstly open up your Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or Business Edition software.
There are a three ways (that I know of) to open SVG files in Silhouette Studio, if you want to save the SVG’s to your library then you can choose:
File, Import, Import to Library.
Navigate to where the SVG file is saved on your computer, for this example I am wanting to open one of my cross designs.
Double click on the SVG document you want to import.
Now don’t panic it will seem as though nothing has happened, however the design has now been saved in your ‘My own designs’ folder in ‘My Library’.
If you want to use the design straight away all you need to do is double click on the design and it will open in a new window.
Now another way to open an SVG file in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or Business Edition is to go to; file, open, navigate to where the SVG file is saved, double click and the file will open in a new window as above.
The merge option is another way to open an SVG file, go to file, click merge, and navigate to where the SVG file is saved, double click.
The file again will open in a new window.
The merge option also allows you to open SVG files on the same canvas, as shown in the picture below.
(Just follow the same instructions relating to the merge option, above.)
You have now successfully opened an SVG file in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or Silhouette Studio Business Edition.
Q- How to ungroup / separate designs in Cricut Design Space.
A-How to ‘un-group’ / separate designs in Cricut Design Space, so I put this little guide together to help.
If you purchase your SVG Cutting Files, there may be instances where there a different layers in one file but you can’t find a way to separate them.
1. There are two ways you can ungroup/separate designs in Cricut Design Space. The first one is to right click on the design and select the ungroup option. As you can see from the examples below, after ungrouping I was able to re-arrange the different layers of the design on the canvas.
2. The other way to ungroup is to select the ‘ungroup’ option at the bottom of the layers panel.
3. One more thing I would like to add is, that once you have ungrouped the layers, ALL the layers become ungrouped, that includes the smaller details, like the smaller parts of the giraffe design (eg; the eyes).
5. If you want to keep these ‘together’ select the layers you wish to keep together and right click and select ‘Group’. This will then put your chosen layers in it’s own group, leaving the other layers ‘free’.
Q-Unzipping our SVG cutting files in Windows.
A-When you download our files they will appear in the ‘Downloads’ folder on you PC. Navigate to your downloads folder and find the file you have downloaded
1: Firstly, right click on the file you want to extract, and select ‘Extract all’.
2: Here, it is asking for you to select the destination, of where you would like the files to be extracted to on your PC. Click browse.
3: Select the destination.
This is where you want to extract the files to in order to then open them in your cutting software.
4: Click Extract, the files will now be in your chosen destination.
5: Navigate to the folder you have extracted them to.
You will now be able to open the files in your cutting software, please bare in mind that you will only be able to open the file format that your software is compatible with, eg; SVG files can only be opened in the Designer and Business edition of Silhouette Studio.
